Babies, Birds and the Potty

It is time to start eating ice cream treats....summer has arrived!

Here is a glimpse into our lives over the last month. We spent Memorial Weekend at my family cabin. It is shocking how booked our summer is already so we knew we had to get up there any chance we could. My dad and Karen were there the first night and we took part in our favorite spring activity, Morel mushroom hunting! Karen is the really successful hunter and we find a few here and there. Thank goodness we don't rely on these for our food source, only a few sauteed in butter for our steaks. Mmmmmm. Lucas's dad Gale came up for the last two nights as well.

Lucas can't stand smores (Is he human?) and since Eliza eats like a truck driver I have a buddy to make them with. I also had to capture a picture of her with one of her many babies. This kids is addicted to babies. I am proud of the fact she watches "A Baby Story" with me and knows exactly when the baby is being born. She says "Oh, baby!" in a slow drawn out way. I think she will be a midwife someday.

We were lucky enough to visit with my college friend Angela and her beautiful family. It is amazing how kids can be so entertained with a bucket of water. Eliza and Shayne cleaned the deck very well.

Angela and Avery.

I am so fortunate to have Lucas's family here to help take care of Eliza when needed. His mom and Al had her overnight and taught her the art of making a cake. Actually licking the bowl.

The other interesting thing in our daily lives is that we are expecting....3 little robin babies! I was already turning into a total "bird nerd" with my Idaho bird book and binocs so this did not help my new obsession. The mom built a nest in a basket right on our front door step so we have front row seats to all the action. We are absolutely amazed at the perfect nest these birds are able to build. However, this does not come without any drama...
Here are some of the conversations it has sparked in our household:
Lucas: "She is never at her nest."
Me: "Yes, she is!" "She needs to eat, build up the nest and have some alone time." "Where is the father, huh?"
Lucas: "She's panting and looks angry."
Me: "She is hormonal, leave her alone!"
Then today I discovered she has an upstairs neighbor! A noisy and social finch somehow made a nest in my wreath right above the Robin nest. She gave away her spot with all the chirping. Very sweet unless you are trying to hatch some eggs. I would be soooo annoyed if I was the Robin.
Stay tuned for more bird drama...and if you come over call ahead of time so I can let you in the garage.
Finally the biggest thing to hit our household is Eliza using the potty for the last month or so! She was in the bathroom one night and told Lucas "Potty, help!" We are not pushing anything and it is still very early in a long process. This means my little baby is getting big. We are only one month away from her 2nd birthday now.
